How to obtain module version information

Another question that can be quite tricky to solve: how can I obtain the version of module XYZ, since I need to patch my XYZ device ASAP?

Simply use the command modinfo:

# /sbin/modinfo ata_piix | less
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.18-274.3.1.el5/kernel/drivers/ata/ata_piix.ko
version: 2.12
license: GPL
description: SCSI low-level driver for Intel PIIX/ICH ATA controllers
author: Andre Hedrick, Alan Cox, Andrzej Krzysztofowicz, Jeff Garzik
srcversion: 83FD225C9D87057BE656BD4
alias: pci:v00008086d00001D08sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
alias: pci:v00008086d00001D00sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
alias: pci:v00008086d00001C09sv*sd*bc*sc*i*

[... etc ...]

In the example shown above, we are looking for the exact version of the ata_piix driver, which may or may not be relevant to your systems. Please note that the modinfo output is very long and that only the relevant lines have been included in the example shown above.
